Fire destroys farmhouse in Castleshaw

AN investigation is underway after Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) dealt with a fire at Higher Castleshaw Farm near Delph.

Crews from Oldham, Ashton and Hyde fire stations were called to the two-storey property in Dirty Lane, Castleshaw, at 7.41pm on Wednesday, July, 4. The incident was on the Greater Manchester border and was also attended by crews from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

When crews arrived they found the detached farm house and the roof engulfed in fire. Firefighting operations were made more difficult due to a lack of water supplies in the area. Crews relayed water to the scene and West Yorkshire firefighters provided a specialist water tanker to assist with the firefighting operation.

Due to the severity of the fire the building became unstable and it was also suspected that a cylinder containing acetylene gas had also become involved in the fire, putting firefighters at greater risk. GMFRS fire crews wearing breathing apparatus used water jets to eventually quell the flames.

Fortunately nobody was injured in the incident and the cause of the fire is now under investigation.
